Setting Up Free Shipping on the Cart Page

In this article, you will learn how to easily add a free shipping progress bar to your cart page

Updated over a week ago

FERMÀT allows you to enable a free shipping progress bar on the cart page, giving customers a clear view of how close they are to unlocking free shipping. This is an effective way to increase Average Order Value (AOV) and motivate shoppers to add more to their cart.

What’s in this guide

Free Shipping via Shop Defaults

Shop Defaults let you define standard free-shipping rules across all your funnels.

How to Set It Up:

  1. Go to Settings → Shop Defaults → Free Shipping

  2. Enter your Minimum purchase requirement

  3. (Optional) Enter a lower threshold for subscription orders

  4. (Optional) Turn on Apply only when all items in the cart are subscription

  5. Click Save

These rules will automatically appear as a progress bar on every funnel’s cart page.

What You Can Configure:

Minimum purchase requirement
Set the spend needed to unlock free shipping on one-time purchases.

Subscription minimum
Set a unique threshold for subscription orders if your subscription pricing differs.

Subscription-only toggle
Enable this if you want free shipping to apply only when the entire cart consists of subscription items.

Free Shipping via Offers (Shipping Offer)

Shipping Offers allow you to run promotional free or discounted shipping based on thresholds. These are managed inside each funnel.

Tip: Use Shipping Offers when running temporary promotions or when free shipping should only apply to specific funnels.

How to Create a Shipping Offer

  1. Go to Funnels → Select Funnel → Offers → Create Offer

  2. Choose Shipping as the offer type

  3. Enter your Internal Name and optional Discount Code

  4. Select the Purchase Type

    • One-time

    • Subscription

    • Both

  5. Set a Minimum Purchase

    • No minimum

    • Minimum purchase amount

    • Minimum quantity of items

  6. Add a Banner Message to show on the funnel
(Example: “Free shipping on orders over $50.”)

  7. Click Save

Important: Offers Override Shop Defaults

If a Shipping Offer is active in a funnel, it will override your Free Shipping settings from Shop Defaults.

This means:

  • The cart page will follow the offer’s rules, not the Shop Default rules

  • The free shipping progress bar will update according to the offer threshold

  • When the offer ends or is turned off, the funnel automatically returns to using Shop Defaults

How It Appears to Shoppers

Once free shipping is set up (either via Shop Defaults or an Offer):

  • A progress bar displays on the cart page

  • Customers see how much more they need to spend to unlock free shipping

  • When the threshold is reached, the bar marks the shipping as unlocked

This helps improve conversion and drive higher AOV.
