Adding FERMAT to a Custom Domain

Learn how you can connect your FERMÀT shops to a custom domain as a subdomain.

Updated over a week ago

To connect your FERMAT shops to a custom domain you are going to need access to your DNS and have the ability to setup a CNAME record.

Depending on when you onboarded with FERMÀT, a custom subdomain may have already been created for you as part of onboarding.

Setting Up a Custom Domain

To add a custom domain to FERMÀT first navigate to the general settings tab on then select DOMAIN. From here you will begin the setup.

1. Decide on a subdomain name

Your FERMÀT shops will live on a subdomain of your existing brand domain.

Example = store.fermatcommerce.com (where all your FERMÀT swag lives)

Before starting this setup you will need to decide what you want your subdomain to be. This should be a brand new subdomain that is not in use for any other functions of your business. Here are a few popular ones that brands we work with are using.

  • shop.

  • try.

  • fermat.

Once you have decided on a subdomain you

2. Setup the DNS

To complete this step you are going to need to have access (or get the help from someone with access) to your DNS provider. This is usually housed in the same place you purchased your domain (GoDaddy, Cloudfare, or Shopify).

For the name value use the subdomain you chose above. You will define that subdomain inside of FERMÀT in the next step.

3. Add the Custom Domain

Once you have done the above two steps you will now add that same subdomain name to the field below.

Once you save the subdomain should connect within 10 minutes but can take up to 24 hours. If your subdomain is still not connected after 24 hours please contact [email protected] for additional assistance.
