When you connect Shopify or Meta Ads to FERMÀT, you’ll see a “Powered by Fivetran” prompt. This guide explains what data permissions you’re granting, what we actually use, why we use it, and how we keep it secure.
What's in this guide:
What Is Fivetran?
Fivetran is a secure, read-only data pipeline that allows platforms like FERMÀT to sync data from tools you already use, like Shopify and Meta, without manual setup.
Why FERMÀT Uses Fivetran
We use Fivetran to automatically and securely sync data from your eCommerce and advertising platforms into your FERMÀT dashboards. This ensures that product, order, and ad performance data flows accurately and reliably, so your funnel reporting and personalization logic stay up to date.
Why These Permissions Are Needed
To deliver personalized bundles, smarter discount strategies, and accurate performance reporting, FERMÀT needs to access a small set of data from:
Your Shopify store — for merchandising and order analytics
Your Meta ad accounts — for campaign performance tracking
This data connection is read-only, and is used exclusively to enhance funnel performance across your store and ad channels.
Important: FERMÀT never makes changes to your Shopify or Meta account.
Shopify Data Access
When you connect your Shopify store, you’ll see a permissions prompt from Fivetran like this:
This prompt reflects the full scope of access Fivetran is authorized to request, not what FERMÀT actually pulls, stores, or uses.
What Permissions Will You See?
When connecting Shopify, the screen may list access to:
Personal data: Customers, store owner, staff info
Store data: Products, orders, discounts, gift cards, staff accounts, Shopify Payments, Shopify admin
These permissions are defined by Shopify’s integration framework and are required by Fivetran to initiate the connection.
What FERMÀT Actually Uses
FERMÀT does not access or use any personally identifiable information (PII) from your Shopify store, such as customer names, emails, addresses, or payment details.
FERMÀT accesses a small, read-only subset of order-level data that powers key merchandising and funnel performance features:
Products purchased
Discount codes used
Cart contents at checkout
An internal customer ID (anonymous)
How the Data Is Used
This data is securely stored in our cloud-based data warehouse and is used exclusively to support:
Product bundling logic
Cart behavior analysis
Discount performance insights
Personalized funnel optimization
Important: FERMÀT never stores PII, and all data handling complies with Shopify’s API terms and data privacy standards.
Meta Ads Data Access
When you connect your Meta (Facebook/Instagram) ad account, you’ll see a permissions prompt during setup. This prompt reflects the full scope of access Meta allows for analytics connections, not what FERMÀT actually pulls, stores, or uses.
What Permissions Will You See?
When connecting Meta, you may be asked to grant access to:
ads_read: To view ad performance data like spend, impressions, clicks, and ROAS
ads_management: To access account metadata such as time zones and attribution settings
business_management: To verify your business and ad account ownership
These permissions are part of Meta’s standard access scopes for analytics and attribution tools and are required by Fivetran to complete the connection.
What FERMÀT Actually Uses
FERMÀT uses only the minimum data required to support accurate funnel performance and attribution reporting:
Ad performance metrics
Ad account settings (read-only)
Business verification info
Important: FERMÀT has no publishing permissions. All access is read-only, and all data handling complies with Meta’s platform policies and privacy best practices.
Data Security & Privacy
FERMÀT takes data privacy seriously. All data connections, whether to Shopify or Meta, are read-only, encrypted, and handled in strict alignment with platform policies and industry standards.
How We Keep Your Data Safe:
No PII Stored: FERMÀT does not store or retain any personally identifiable information (PII), even when platforms like Shopify list it in the permission scopes.
Anonymous by Design: We use only anonymized customer IDs, never names, emails, addresses, or payment information.
Secure Access Tokens: All data access is facilitated through Fivetran, and access tokens are fully encrypted and never exposed.
Read-Only Permissions: FERMÀT cannot modify, create, or publish content in your connected accounts.
